‘American Horror Story: 1984’ might have Sarah Paulson “pop up” after all

American Horror Story: 1984 is gearing up to release this month, but it will, unfortunately, be without series mainstay Sarah Paulson. Or will it?

Now, the actress who has appeared in the previous eight seasons of the show is teasing a cameo.

We learned back in July that Paulson would not be starring in season 9. She appeared in debut season Murder House in 2011 in a small role as psychic Billie Dean Howard. The following season, she took center stage as journalist Lana Winters in Asylum. Her stardom continued from there.

When that news was learned, the door was left open for the possibility of a cameo, and now it sounds like it’s actually happening.

Paulson spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her feelings surrounding AHS: 1984 and teased us that she might be making a return.

“It’s a little bittersweet because I have a lot of friends who are still on the show. So I’m getting updates about how it’s all going and what they’re doing, and I’m like, ‘Wait, what? You worked until two? Oh, I remember working until two on that show,'” she said. “And then I’m also very glad that I can wake up at a decent hour because I’m not cross-eyed from having worked insane nights.”

“But, it’ll be hard. I’ll be watching and cheering everybody on. I’m really excited for this season. I think it’s a really cool idea for the show this year,” Paulson added. “And you never know, I may pop up. You never know. No promises though.”

Aside from Paulson, we were also crushed to learn that  Evan Peters would be sitting out season 9 as well, (but it might not be the end of his appearances on the show).

A few weeks ago, American Horror Story: 1984 dropped its first full trailer with a gory introduction to our slasher, Mr. Jingles.

The trailer holds true to the ’80s slasher vibes we’ve been teased with over the last few months, stepping up the blood and gore while giving us a little more background on our villain.

It appears the next season of American Horror Story involves one named Mr. Jingles, who has escaped from a psychiatric facility.

The trailer also brings the reveal of Mitch Pileggi (Shocker, The X-Files) in the ninth season!

According to TV Time, the first episode of the season will be titled “Camp Redwood” with episode two titled as “Mr. Jingles.”

In February, creator Ryan Murphy revealed Emma Roberts would be returning and athlete Gus Kenworthy was confirmed as her boyfriend. The latter caused backlash over the creator’s alleged lack of diversity in casting and Kenworthy’s slim acting resume.

In addition to Roberts and Kenworthy, several other American Horror Story favorites are set to return. Cody Fern is back after working with Murphy on American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace and Apocolypse.

Billie Lourd, who worked with Murphy on Scream Queens, Cult and Apocolypse, appeared in the first teaser as well as Cult and Apocolypse star Leslie Grossman. Glee actor Matthew Morrison, Pose star Angelica Ross, DeRon Horton and Zach Villa were also spotlighted.

American Horror Story: 1984 will debut Sept. 18 on FX.
