There’s going to be a brand new ‘American Horror Story’ spin-off series

Even though Hollywood is essentially at a standstill due to coronavirus, it doesn’t mean we can’t get excited about the future. Now we’ve learned, it’ll be a future that includes an all-new American Horror Story spin-off series.

The new series was announced by AHS creator Ryan Murphy today (May 11). Murphy says the new series will be aptly titled American Horror Stories and will consist of contained one-hour episodes.

There has been plenty of American Horror Story news as of late. It started with Murphy teasing the potential theme of the long-running show’s tenth season. Murphy revealed the cast with an ominous video showing waves lapping against the shore.

Then, Murphy posted another teaser showing a grim pair of hands clinging to a shore, adding fuel to the fire that American Horror Story season 10 would focus heavily on the beach.

Murphy also talked about what role newcomer Macaulay Culkin would play, in addition to addressing filming concerns due to the coronavirus.

On a separate note, Murphy also said he’s working on a project with two American Horror Story actors Dylan McDermott and Leslie Jordan, but those details are scarce.

Now, Murphy seems to have a date pegged down for when American Horror Story will likely begin filming. But, the greater news is that American Horror Stories is on the way.

Murphy said he couldn’t provide all the details. But, we know that the new show will feature contained one-hour episodes. Unlike American Horror Story, which has completely contained seasons, the new show will tell a story beginning to end in one hour. It’s perfect for those horror fans that want something fresh each week.

“American Horror Story” cast zoom call…where we reminisced about the good times…the spin off we’re doing called “American Horror Stories” (one hour contained episodes)…when we will start filming the next season of the mothership…and other stuff I cannot print. It was so much fun and I’m glad we caught up. I miss everyone!

In an interview with The Wrap, Murphy shares that season 10’s plot is greatly dependent on warmer weather. As production is likely to be stopped for quite some time, pushing filming into the colder months, Murphy says a lot of things will have to be reevaluated.

“A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment,” Murphy says. “It was a weather-dependent show. So now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do.”

Murphy says he’s evaluating whether or not he’s going to change the season or work on another in the meantime. “I don’t know what I’m going to do next with that show,” he shares. “I don’t know if I’ll accelerate another season or wait til next year to shoot this one.”

As well as Culkin, season ten is also set to feature Sarah Paulson who announced her return for season 10 alongside Evan PetersLeslie Grossman, Kathy BatesBillie LourdAdina PorterLily RabeAngelica Ross and Finn Wittrock are also appearing in the show.
