'Anchorman 2': now with more songs

People have been quoting the lovable but slightly idiotic Ron Burgundy ever since Will Ferrell donned the maroon suit in 2004's Anchorman. Now, with plans for a sequel taking shape, fans may go from quoting Ron Burgundy to singing along with him.

In an interview with The PlaylistAnchorman director, Adam McKay says the sequel will absolutely feature musical numbers. “There will be some music in Anchorman 2 though for sure. We have some songs already written,” he says in the interview.

The original plan was for Anchorman 2 to be written as a musical, followed by a four-month run on Broadway before filming began. However, once Paramount did the math, the studio didn't think the $60 million budget for the sequel was justifiable considering the first movie made $85 million domestically. So in 2010, the original plan for the sequel was scrapped.

Anchorman 2 will begin filming early next year. No word yet on what songs we'll see the Action News team performing, but if their rendition of “Afternoon Delight” is any indiciation, the song(s) in the sequel are sure to be magical.
