Andy Biersack’s memoir ‘They Don’t Need To Understand’ is on its way
Black Veil Brides fans are getting a closer look into the life of Andy Biersack. On Friday, the frontman announced his forthcoming memoir They Don’t Need To Understand.
Written alongside Ryan J. Downey, Biersack opens up about his family, life and career in the new memoir.

They Don’t Need To Understand introduces fans to Andrew Dennis Biersack, an imaginative and creative kid from Cincinnati, who eventually becomes the singer of Black Veil Brides and solo artist Andy Black. In the memoir, Biersack opens up about his “struggles with anxiety, fear, loneliness and the impossible task of fitting in.”
Throughout the book, Biersack takes fans along for the ride as he discusses moving to Hollywood after his 18th birthday to pursue his passion for music. From living in his car to eventually starting Black Veil Brides, They Don’t Need To Understand shows Biersack as no one has seen before.
As publisher Rare Bird’s synopsis says, They Don’t Need To Understand is truly a modern rock memoir that will captivate both BVB fans and music fanatics.
“It’s the origin story of one of modern rock’s most exciting young superheroes,” the book’s synopsis says. “From building miniature concerts with KISS action figures in his bedroom to making the RIAA gold-certified single ‘In the End‘ and connecting with passionate fans worldwide.”

On Friday, Biersack further discussed the meaning behind the memoir. He reveals that They Don’t Need To Understand is all about his personal journey throughout the years.
“This book isn’t some salacious tell-all memoir from a 29-year-old or an instructional guide to being in a band,” he says. “It’s a story of personal belief and tenacity in the face of the demons and fears that burden all of us in our journey to find purpose and happiness. I wanted to share with you guys my story and hopefully show that if success on any level can happen for me it can certainly happen for you.”
As well, he humbly shares that this book is for the fans who have stood by him over the years. He hopes that by telling his story, fans can better understand his journey and maybe find a bit of themselves within his personal story.

“There is nothing remarkable about me,” he continues. “I have just fought hard to be heard and have been extremely fortunate to have garnered an audience of so many of you over the past 10 years. I was a lonely kid in Ohio who dreamt of being a rock star, found success as a teenager, lost track of myself and who I was. [I] have spent the second half of my 20’s working every day to be someone that is worthy of your support.”

They Don’t Need To Understand arrives Dec. 8. Signed copies of the memoir are available to pre-order here for $26.00. The exclusive signed preordered books ship in November. Hardcover, E-book and audiobook versions are available starting Dec. 8.
Along with his new memoir, Biersack has been hard at work on various other projects. Black Veil Brides are currently recording their new album. They recently released Re-Stitch These Wounds, a re-record of their debut album We Stitch These Wounds. The reimagined album is in celebration of the record’s 10th anniversary.
As well, Biersack is living out his dream of being Batman. He is the voice of the DC superhero in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s new comic Dark Nights: Death Metal. The first episode of the comic arrived earlier this week.
He is also set to star in the American Satan spinoff Paradise City alongside Ben Bruce, BooBoo Stewart, Bella Thorne and more. Due to coronavirus, however, the release date for the series is still unknown.
