It seems like 2020 has been full of nothing but reboot announcementsShe’s All ThatGossip GirlPretty Little LiarsDexter and Saved By The Bell are just a few of the shows to announce spin-offs and revivals this year. Now, it looks like True Blood is another series to add to the seemingly ever-growing list.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a reboot of the show is reportedly in the works over at HBO. Although most details about the reboot are still unknown, we do know that Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is at the helm of the project. As well, the original True Blood creator Alan Ball is back as an executive producer.

Now, it looks like Anna Paquin has a few things to say about the reboot news. On Dec. 9, she took to Twitter to reveal she had no idea a True Blood revival was in the works.

“Well, this is the first I’m hearing about this.”

Despite Paquin’s response, fans shouldn’t give up hope about seeing Sookie Stackhouse‘s return in the revival. So far, it is unknown if any of the original cast members are returning for the HBO reboot. However, The Hollywood Reporter further says that Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien (AMC‘s NOS4A2) are still working on the series’ pilot. So, it looks like the possibility for Paquin to be involved in the project is still there.

Denis O’Hare, who played Russell Edgington on True Blood, responded to Paquin’s tweet this week. The actor shares that he also didn’t know a reboot was happening.

Deborah Ann Woll, who played Jessica Hamby, also reveals she didn’t know about the project until reports emerged earlier this week.

“To my amazement, Variety has announced that a reboot of ‘True Blood’ is in early stages of development at HBO. That’s absolutely all I know.”

True Blood was based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris. It made its debuted on HBO back in 2008 and eventually ran for seven seasons. Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer were the head stars of True BloodAlexander SkarsgardSam Trammell and Rutina Wesley were among the other actors in the cast.

When the series came to an end back in 2014, the finale was met with mixed reviews from diehard fans. Along with surprise endings and weird conclusions for beloved characters, True Blood fans are still debating the show’s ending six years later. So, naturally, news of the reboot is earning even more mixed responses.
