Anti-Flag celebrate '20/20 Vision' release with full in-studio performance

Anti-Flag have been doing this music thing for over 20 years. And, they’ve been doing it really, really well. In that scope of time, the politically-charged punk rockers have seen plenty of historical moments, and all the way through, they keep rocking. It only makes sense that they’re a tight fucking band at this point.

They just showed it by releasing a live- in-studio full-album playthrough of their newest record 20/20 VisionThe multi-cam video gives us a look at what everyone is doing to create such a sonic masterpiece.

To celebrate the release of 20/20 Vision today, Anti-Flag dropped an incredible video of them playing the record front-to-back.

Just by looking at the album’s cover, you can tell what the progressive punk icons are condemning. Anti-Flag drew a clear line in the sand in regards to the Trump administration and made it clear that this album is intended to explicitly address the here and now. The title is a double entendre for being able to see clearly and a reference to the 2020 election.

Anti-Flag recently sat down with AltPress to discuss all things 20/20 Vision and more. Vocalist and guitarist Justin Sane says “We never put a president’s face on a record, and we’ve never had a quote from a president to start a song […] We felt that Donald Trump’s actions were so egregious that it was absolutely important for us to point directly at the guy.”

“We just felt like when we look back on history, we wanted people to know during this time where we stood and that we didn’t just stay silent,” Sane says. “And we also wanted an opportunity to write our own future, you know?”

“Our record is not just a criticism of Donald Trump, although it’s definitely that, but we also try to offer a lot of optimism with the record. When we organize against these things that are obviously crimes against humanity and crimes against our planet, we can write to share them, and we can point things in a positive direction.”

Discussing the overall message of 20/20 Vision, Anti-Flag narrowed it dowd to cynicism being the biggest enemy.

“So I think the overarching message is that cynicism, giving up and feeling like we can’t make the world a better place or that we can’t change things is our No. 1 enemy. If we give up and we’re cynical about what’s happening, that’s when the bad guys win, and we want the bad guys to lose. We’re going to make the bad guys lose because we’re going to keep fighting.”
