Debunked: If the Clash are reforming, it's without Tim Armstrong

We've all heard the rumors: Supposedly, the Clash are reuniting under the guidance of Mick Jones, and filling in for the late, great Joe Strummer will be none other than Mr. Hellcat himself, Rancid/Transplants mastermind Tim Armstrong. While having never been reported by any credible news source, this rumor has continued to slowly creep across the internet, building steam as of late (it was brought back into AP's sights this weekend when a member of a rather large punk band, who has appeared on AP's cover before, told us that it was "a done deal"). So, we are here to tell you once and for all, this is false. Don't just take our word for it, though.

"It ain't true," says Hellcat Records label manager Chris LaSalle. "Without reserve, it's 100% false. Tim and I are busy preparing Give Em The Boot V. That's it."

Now of course, this doesn't mean that the Clash couldn't still reunite sans Strummer, negating everything they stood for in their existence simply for a quick cash-grab; but something tells us they're a bit too good for something like that (hello, Johnny Rotten!).

So, what's today's lesson? Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Unless you read it at altpress.com, of course.
