Zao to record new album with Steve Albini

Christian metalcore band Zao have announced plans to return to the studio in January 2006 to record the follow-up to 2004's Ferret debut The Funeral Of God. The band are currently at home in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, demoing songs, but will begin recording with legendary producer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Slint, Pixies) in January. The group currently have over 10 songs ready for recording.

"This is our strongest material and I'm confident in saying this will be the best album that ZAO has ever written," says guitarist Scott Mellinger via the band's website. "We want to capture the dark and sinister vibe that was all over the Liberate record, while going even further forward and experimenting – as Zao always has done – with new depths within our sound."

The band have also just released their first DVD, a double-disc retrospective titled The Lesser Lights Of Heaven. A trailer for the DVD can be viewed at the band's website.
