J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) forms new band, Witch

Dinosaur Jr frontman J. Mascis has announced the formation of Witch, his new band with Feathers members Kyle Thomas and Asa Irons, and friend Dave Sweetapple. As has been consistent with both Dinosaur Jr and Mascis' solo output as J. Mascis + The Fog, Witch are described as having "a classic-rock metal sound reminiscent to that of the early seventies." Mascis plays drums for Witch, a change from his guitar days but actually a return to his original instrument, as he started off as the drummer for hardcore band Deep Wound.



The band recently completed their debut LP with producer John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr., Early Man, Screaming Trees, Lamb of God); the self-titled effort will come out via TeePee Records March 7. 2006, with a 7-inch single preceeding it this December.



The band's debut shows are coming up in Philadelphia and New York City this December alongside Dead Meadow; dates:
