The Decemberists sign to Capitol Records

Pitchfork is reporting that the Decemberists have signed to Capitol Records. The Portland, Oregon, band, who just completed a European tour in support of their 2005 Kill Rock Stars-released album Picaresque, plan on entering the studio in April 2006 to record their major-label debut with Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla producing.



"The plan is to find a mansion to move into and take a little bit more time than we did for Picaresque," frontman Colin Meloy told Pitchfork. "Walla is intent on recording it exclusively on 24-track, rather than the 80 tracks that we used recording Picaresque. In some ways, we're scaling back a little bit."



Before the recording session commences, Meloy will head out on a brief solo tour this January. Dates:
