Weezer to release live DVD in 2006

Long-running power-pop group Weezer have begun assembling a live DVD for release sometime in 2006. The band recently filmed two performances of their just-completed tour of Japan (December 20 and 21 at Studio Coast in Tokyo). Weezer webmaster/"fifth member" Karl Koch posted the following bits of information on the group's website about the project:

"[The DVD is comprised of] a 2-day, 7-camera shoot of the shows, plus material that will be drawn from various 'behind the scenes' footage that both the Japanese company is shooting as well as footage I've been gathering as we travel around."

Koch has also assured that, while a definite release date for the DVD is not yet known, it will see the light of day "in '06 for sure." There is no word on song selection for the live performance, however Koch mentioned that "Undone (The Sweater Song)" and "Across The Sea" were both played at the shows, as well as a completely acoustic version of "Island In The Sun" on the second night. A fan has posted a setlist of the second night here, although it is currently unclear which songs may make the DVD's final cut.

Weezer spent a majority of 2005 in support of their latest LP Make Believe, which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and has spawned the singles "Beverly Hills," "We Are All On Drugs" and "Perfect Situation." The album has sold over 800,000 copies in the U.S. to date. The band also appeared on the cover of AP this past April.
