Jesus and Mary Chain set to release new record in 2008

After performing together for the first time since 1998 at this year’s Coachella, incalculably influential Scottish alt rock group the Jesus And Mary Chain have announced that they will be putting out a new record in spring/early summer 2008. The brothers Reid spent years after the break-up of the band not even able to be in the same room as one another. Says William of the rift and how they are getting along now,

"When we ended in ’98, we hated each other. A lot of that was down to drink and drugs. Jim’s completely sober now, and I don’t drink during the shows. But there is a kind of wariness. We’re both aware that we could snap at each other, but we’re trying to hold it together. We love this band, and we love each other."

They have already performed one song from the album this summer on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and another will be included on the soundtrack for the NBC’s "Heroes", which is coming out early next year. Although Sub Pop released the Jesus And Mary Chain’s last album Munki, the band has yet to sign to any label for the distribution of their new effort.
