Nakatomi Plaza breaking up

Brooklyn indie rock trio Nakatomi Plaza have announced their impending breakup.

In the rather heartfelt message, vocalist/guitarist Oscar Rodriguez explains the situation:

"A couple months ago I told [bassist/vocalist] Al and [drummer] Lou that I no longer wanted to continue playing in Nakatomi Plaza. After 10 years, 3 full-lengths (and a few singles/EPs/comp tracks), 3 vans, and seemingly countless shows, tours, and recording sessions I had decided it was time for me to move on and explore other music with different people. For all three of us, this was heavy news and we needed time to digest it which is why we delayed the announcement until now."

The announcement also includes messages to and from the other band members. Caution: gushy.

The band will be playing The Fest 7 this weekend and will record their final release towards the end of the year. Soon thereafter they’ll play several record release / farewell shows.

The band’s three full-lengths were 1999’s By Chester Copperpot (BD), 2001’s Private Property (Gunboat; reissed by Immigrant Sun in 2002) and Unsettled (recorded in 2004, self-released in 2005 and properly released by Red Leader in 2007). Their EPs included splits with Latterman (2000, BD) and Frenetics (2002, Fans Of Bad Productions), as well as 2007’s Frog Octopus Wolf (Red Leader).
