iTunes going DRM-free

Apple’s iTunes will soon be completely DRM-free. Digital rights management (DRM) refers to limits placed on media files, such as how many times they can be copied and to what devices or locations.

The iTunes Plus service is now DRM-free, with the entire catalog expected to be similarly unrestricted come the end of March.

They’ve also unveiled a new pricing structure, with single songs selling for $0.69, $0.99 or $1.29.

The move is being analyzed as one that will better compete with Amazon MP3’s DRM-free digital store.
