Cobra Starship enlist Gossip Girl star

It was only a pipe-dream when Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta said in our Most Anticipated Albums of '09 issue that he'd like to have actress/singer Leighton Meester ["Blair" on Gossip Girl] guest-star on the band's upcoming full-length. Now that pipe-dream is a reality. While the band were working on the album, Saporta said, "Our producer was like, 'Yo, guys, I have to interrupt our session next week because I have Blair from Gossip Girl coming in to record a song.' I was like, 'You can only interrupt the session if you get her on the record.' But I don't think it's gonna happen."

Well, something happened because Meester–who just released a song called "Birthday" last week–has been working with Saporta and songwriter/American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi on a remix of "I Make Good Girls Go Bad," which was written for Cobra Starship's next full-length. It's unclear whether the song will make the album or appear as a release by Meester.

Saporta had this to say about the turn of events:
"CAN YOU BELIEVE I GET TO DO A SONG WITH BLAIR WALDORF?! It's no secret that I am a HUGE Gossip Girl fan. (On tour, our fans bring me copies of the episodes I am missing so I can stay caught up). A couple months ago, I heard a rumor that Leighton was working on a record, and I went to sleep that night dreaming of what it would be like to do a song with her. Next morning (afternoon, actually) I wake up to find out my dreams are coming true! Some people made phone calls to some other people, then, shazam! I'm on a plane to LA to record with my boo."

The follow-up to Cobra Starship's Viva La Cobra is due out later this year.
