Storm Area 51 event creator proves Slayer fandom during broadcast

As if this Area 51 raid couldn’t get more ridiculous, apparently the guy who started one of the biggest memes of the year is a Slayer fan.

To backtrack, there has been a meme going around about people that are RSVPing to a Facebook event that is planned to “storm Area 51.”

More than 2 million people have RSVPed to the event that was set to take place this weekend.

The Air Force base is completely secure and no one knows for sure what’s inside. Because of the mystery, many people believe it has something to do with aliens.

The man behind the meme, Matty Roberts, ended up turning his internet success into an actual event. It was set for Sept. 19-22 and was supposed to be an alien-themed “party in the desert” in the closest town to the base. That city is Rachel, Nevada and it has a capacity of 50 people. Therefore, it seemed like a long shot from the start.

However, due to “poor planning” and “risk management,” Roberts has canceled the festival and provided an alternative celebration.

“Due to the lack of infrastructure, poor planning, risk management and blatant disregard for the safety of the expected 10,000+ AlienStock attendees, we decided to pull the plug on the festival,” the festival site reads.

Despite the cancelation, many people are still trying to go to the base in honor of the day and fulfill their curiosities about the secure site.

Now, Roberts has appeared on CNN to talk about the even he created on the weekend it was set to occur He said it initially started as a joke but got real very quickly.

While it was interesting to hear how it all started, we couldn’t help but notice that he was sporting a Slayer hat during the interview. Do you think the veteran rock band plans to descend on the secure site? Probably not, but it’s a funny thought. Maybe those planning to attack the base by doing a “Naruto-run” will blast “Raining Blood” or “Angel of Death” to get hyped for the whole thing.

And if you’re playing it safe because you’re not trying to go to the extreme of trekking through the desert, and possibly getting arrested, you can still celebrate the day thanks to the Foo Fighters.

The band performed at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico more than a decade ago. If you didn’t know, many people believe Roswell is near a UFO crash site.

The performance celebrated the release of the band’s album In Your Honor, and 500 lucky people got to attend the gig.

Now, the band have released a new live EP of the gig to celebrate unofficial storm Area 51 day. You can listen to it below.
