Ariana Grande's new tattoo doesn't mean what she thought

Getting a tattoo can sometimes be a hit or miss affair. Especially if one’s aiming to emblazon their body with words in another language. Unfortunately, it looks like our beloved Ariana Grande just fell into that tattoo trap.

Because the singer got a new kanji palm tat to celebrate her latest hit single, “7 rings.” But the Chinese characters presented on the fresh ink don’t actually identify the name of the tune, as intended. Instead, as reported by Kotaku and others, Grande’s new tattoo actually says something akin to “barbecue grill,” a fact pointed out to Ariana on Twitter.

“Ariana Grande’s new tattoo ‘七輪’ means Japanese style bbq grill, not 7 rings,” Twitter user @hey__amo fired off on Tuesday. And it looks like the translation clarification got the artist’s attention, as Grande apparently sent out a tweet in response.

Since deleted, however—along with an Instagram pic of the tat—the singer sported a unbothered attitude about the ink online. In fact, Ariana reportedly says she’d be more than willing to re-do the tattoo in the future, per The Fader.

“indeed, i left out ‘つの指”’which should have gone in between. it hurt like fuck n still looks tight. i wouldn’t have lasted one more symbol lmao. but this spot also peels a ton and won’t last so if i miss it enough, i’ll suffer thru the whole thing next time.”
