Ash Costello talks to fans following birthday wish list backlash
We’re full swing into February and quickly approaching New Years Day frontwoman Ash Costello’s birthday. Like many, the singer made a wish list of gifts she’d like to receive.
Costello shared the list via social media, which set off an array of fan reactions, many of whom took offense to its concept and began expressing their concern.

The vocalist first shared the list at the start of her birthday month, giving fans the option to purchase a gift for her if they chose to do so. Each item included a description of what she would do with it if a fan chose to purchase it and she explained she would be doing an unboxing video later.
“Thank you for checking out my birthday wishlist!” the list’s description reads. “I’m going to do an unboxing of bday presents and read your messages from it’s senders on my YouTube channel! Who doesn’t love presents for their birthday right?! I thought it would be really fun to open bday gifts from you guys for my channel! I am so grateful to receive any presents at all, it feels like being sent bday gifts from friends all over the world! So I thank you!!!!”
I HAVE AN AMAZON BDAY WISHLIST!
https://t.co/U2HEg0N7Jz if you wanna send me preseeeents, here ya go! I’ll wait till my day and open them all on Instagram live 😉 not gonna lie, I get super giddy when I get a notification that one is on its way to my house!’n— ☠┼ Ash Costello ┼☠ (@Ash_Costello) February 2, 2019
Some fans were excited and supportive.
There are literally so many items priced at $20 & under…and people are mad about larger priced ones? Avoid them then or don’t buy anything. But ya know, let’s be rude about her wanting to involve all of us.??♀️

it’s a BIRTHDAY WISH LIST. not a BUY ME THIS OR ELSE list. ?
— brenda ? (@filmforhereyes) February 6, 2019
Y’all need to calm down! Not everything that was on her wishlist is super expensive. Also, it’s not like she’s asking for gifts all year long, her birthday is coming up soon. She’s doing the same thing as many of you do which is ask for gifts for your birthday.

While others were concerned and upset.
I used to love you so much. But legit I saw you spend over 1k at rock and shock in 2016. Sis I would have done that if I had money. Buying vip is enough and people supporting you.

Most things there are twice as expensive as my bass that took me 2 years to get
This is ridiculous
Open a PO box instead and let fans send you things that took them time and effort that for sure will be cheaper for them
But this is just taking advantage of your fans— ONE BLUE THING (@k_in_pieces) February 6, 2019
We do Not Stan: Ash Costello, who is taking advantage of her fans to get them to buy her expensive birthday presents that she, a celebrity with a two MILLION dollar net worth, can definitely afford all on her own.
— emily jade ✨ (@somewhatemily) February 6, 2019
Just a thought but maybe you, as an adult in a position of power, shouldn’t try to coerce your young fans into buying you $600 items you can definitely afford on your own

Costello caught wind of the latter reactions, and she took to her page to address the concerns:
“1. I’m not MAKING or convincing anyone to buy me anything. 2. That wishlist also has my mom, friends and family on it cause they asked what I’d like for my birthday. 3.I’ve also posted my PO Box where fans can send letters, art, or whatever FOR FREE if they wish.
“4. You’re not “calling me out” for anything. Fans ASK to send me things. No one HAS to, and that’s obvious when I post the PO Box option as well. 5. TONS of my friends have bday wishlists that I have purchased presents for them from. This isn’t a weird or abnormal thing.
“6. If you don’t like what’s on MY wishlist, well I don’t know what to tell ya. Go make your own. Thanks for sucking the fun out of it. I consider fans, friends and family. And friends get friends presents for their bday! Even handmade ones! So calm yourselves.

Costello explained it’s “so dumb that [she] even has to address that” and stated she also has a P.O. box where people can send her letters.

The singer reiterated that birthdays are supposed to be fun, reminding fans yet again they can choose not to buy anything.

Anyone thinks I’m going to let them drag me for making a public amazon BIRTHDAY wish list with silly wish list items for fans who asked for it is out of their minds. You’re lookin for a bandwagon? This isn’t it. End of.
— ☠┼ Ash Costello ┼☠ (@Ash_Costello) February 7, 2019
Costello ended her clarification by stating she would be doing a Q&A. You can read the responses on her Twitter page.
Also, I’m going to do a Q&A here. Just so instead of assuming things about me, you can JUST ASK. So here you go! Tweet me and ask away. I’ll answer as many as I can while I have some time. I’m currently in NY taking business meetings and am in between them right now.
