This metal 'Legend Of Zelda' cover is a true Triforce bop

Video game theme song covers tend to lend themselves to imaginative heavy metal renditions. (Hey, remember Nintendocore?) To wit, metalcore mainstays August Burns Red are turning The Legend Of Zelda‘s classic theme into a dynamic, guitar-fueled anthem you’d think could resurrect the entire Kingdom of Hyrule. Check it out below!

The tune appears on the band’s upcoming Phantom Sessions EP, out Feb. 8 via Fearless Records. And it’s the first fresh release from Pennsylvania-based rockers since the singles surrounding their 2017 eighth album, Phantom Anthem.

But it was one particular member of August Burns Red who took it upon himself to spearhead the remake, which premiered today over at Nerdist, the witty concept drawn from formative years spent playing the Zelda franchise games.

“For the cover, I wanted to do a mash-up of not only the original theme, but other pieces from the game as well,” bassist Dustin Davidson explains. The instrumentalist conceived and executed the guitar play-through video seen above.

“Since the dungeon theme flirts with the diminished scale, it just made sense to put it into a metal cover,” he continues. “It was a lot of fun to write and record and I look forward to playing it on future tours!” (See the upcoming dates below.)
