Avenged Sevenfold had to cancel their show with Metallica on Friday due to the birth of guitarist Synyster Gates' son. Following the notice of a rescheduled make-up date, Gates is now talking about he and his wife's bundle of joy.

Loudwire spoke to Gates about his new baby boy. After rushing home in the midst of A7X's current tour to be present for the delivery, Gates noted that “the first day was tough, the second day was incredible” in regard to his son's birth.

“As a father, when your child comes out, you’re kind of welling up because of what your wife is going through, but the minute the crazy, gray baby comes out and it looks like a 90-year-old version of you, you get scared to death, like, what the fuck have I done?”

Gates also spoke of his excitment for A7X's looming downtime (“I’m glad we’ve got like 20 days off”), which he'll use to spend with his family. He highlighted his anguish upon leaving his wife and newborn baby to return to tour.

“The day progresses and your family is crying, it’s all amazing. The next day, you get that time alone with you and your wife and then you develop the bond and then it’s fucked when you have to leave. I didn’t cry when the kid came out, but I cried when I had to fucking leave, it’s horrible.”
