'Avengers: Endgame’ writer points out flaw in Ant-Man, Thanos butt theory

Although Avengers: Endgame premiered over a month ago, fan theories are still running wild, and sometimes being humored by the film’s team.

This time, we get an answer to the theory that many didn’t want the answer to. You know, the one involving Ant-Man and Thanos’ behind.

If you aren’t up to speed, a particular fan theory spawned ahead of Endgame‘s release claiming to have a realistic way to defeat the Mad Titan. The theory stated Ant-Man could simply shrink, sneak inside Thanos through the backdoor, and grow to giant size.

Despite the rock-solid logic behind this one, Endgame‘s co-writer Stephen Markus officially set the record straight on the “Thanus” theory in a recent interview with Empire.

“Thanos could take a punch from the Hulk, we’ve seen that,” he explains. “And it stands to reason his whole body is at least as strong as that. If Ant-Man expanded, he would be simply crushed against the immovable walls of Thanos’ mighty rectum.”

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo sounded off on the theory in April, giving props to fans for their creativity.

“‘Thanus’ is truly the most ridiculous fan theory we’ve ever heard,” said Anthony says.

“But it’s a highly inventive one,” Joe says. “I want to know who came up with it.”

Additionally, Ant-Man himself weighed in on the theory, noting his shock at how popular the sentiment has become.

“I’ve been asked about it a bunch,” Paul Rudd says. “I am amused a bit at how widespread it seems to have gotten.”

The theory itself has amassed millions of laughs across all social media platforms. One fan even created a realistic alternate ending for Avengers: Endgame to reflect the theory.

Hopefully, now that the theory is officially answered, we can let it blow away in the wind and focus on what’s next for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
