Baby Yoda Funko Pop! vinyl figure takes cuteness into hyperspace

The Mandalorian quickly dominated popular culture conversation when it premiered on Disney+ back in November. And it wasn’t just because it’s a Star Wars show. Nope, the action-packed space shooter received the most attention for the adorable little green alien lovingly referred to as Baby Yoda.

Of course, that’s not The Child’s real name. No, that still hasn’t been revealed and apparently it’s super top secret. But what has been revealed is the official Funko Pop! Vinyl figure for the small green fellow.

Baby Yoda is perhaps the greatest cultural zeitgeist ever. The Child quickly snatched up the top Google search of 2019, even though he only popped up in November. Star Wars fans and everyone else on the internet was desperate to get a hold of any merchandise they could that featured Baby Yoda. But, since Disney wanted to entirely keep Baby Yoda a secret, they had no merchandise produced.

In fact, Baby Yoda as a whole is kept so secret that Disney CEO Bob Iger said he needs extra security. In a December interview with Time,  Iger discusses all manner of things Disney. The most interesting part is his brief dialogue on the topic of The Child.

Iger revealed that The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau is not too fond of those that call The Child Baby Yoda.

“We don’t refer to the Child or the Asset the way that the world is referring to the Child or the Asset. Baby Yoda, that’s a no-no,” Iger says. “I got chastised, in my early emails to Jon Favreau, I referenced in my emails Baby Yoda.”

“It just seemed easy, and I got my wrist slapped by Jon a few times. ‘It’s not Baby Yoda!’ I think people really want to know, what’s its name?” Iger continues. “What’s its real name? I know its real name and it’s one of the reasons that I have extra security now because I don’t want to be given some kind of truth serum by someone.”

Well now, in a massive wave of merchandise rollouts to capitalize on the stardom of Baby Yoda, fans can finally get their hands on an officially licensed Funko Pop! On Feb. 5, Funko tweeted a picture showing what the child looks like. He’s just as cute as ever.

This new figure is an exact replica of the 10″ Super Sized Pop that is available for preorder. However, this little fellow stands at just 3 3/4″ tall. According to Disney’s website, the figure is also available for preorder and is expected out on May 13. They will be available here.
