Bandcamp to launch game-changing vinyl pressing service

Streaming service Bandcamp has recently announced that they are launching an all-new in-house vinyl pressing service for bands who use their platform.

According to Pitchfork, the new development gives bands and artists the option to crowdfund for vinyl releases. Then, if the band covers the minimum costs of making the records, Bandcamp will press the vinyl, print the packaging and then ship it directly to the fans who order it.

According to Bandcamp’s website, the service lessens the stress and hassle that comes with pressing vinyl when you are a smaller band. That said, the new service will eliminate any out-of-pocket costs. Instead, fans’ ordering will pay for the pressings.

Despite what you may be thinking, bands will still have “complete control” over the record’s design and price. Additionally, Bandcamp ensures users that the vinyl will be of high quality.

So far, the service has pressed records for a total of four artists: Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah’s Astral Recall, Juliette Jade’s Constellation, Mesarthim’s Ghost Condensate and Jim Guthrie’s Below (Original Soundtrack).

Additionally, a few bands, artists and labels have taken to social media to express their thoughts on Bandcamp’s latest development in vinyl.

The service is set to launch later this year, according to the streaming service’s vinyl page, which you can check out here.
