Bartees Strange shares "Hold The Line" ahead of 'Farm To Table'—listen

Bartees Strange has dropped “Hold The Line,” the latest single from upcoming album Farm To Table. The mournful track was written in honor of George Floyd‘s daughter, Gianna.

Strange wrote the song during the first pandemic summer in an effort to “make sense of what was happening in the U.S., his neighborhood and his community at that moment.”

In “Hold The Line,” Strange explores Black perseverance and whether there’s any hope of escape from struggle other than heaven. Strange’s guitar punctuates each of his statements and questions with a plaintive cry, almost as if it’s looking for answers as well.

Strange also commented on the nature of Gianna’s forced maturation, saying, “I remember watching George Floyd’s daughter talk about the death of her father and thinking, ‘Wow – what a sad introduction to Black American life for this young person.’ It was painful to watch her grow up in that moment, like all Black kids eventually do.”

Farm To Table arrives June 17, with physical copies releasing Oct. 7.

Strange is currently on tour. See if he’s coming to your city, and get your tickets here.
