Beartooth return with heavy-hitting new single “Devastation”—listen
Last fall, Beartooth frontman Caleb Shomo confirmed the band have finished work on their fourth studio album. Now, they’re back with their first piece of new music this year. On Friday, they returned with their explosive new single “Devastation.”
So far, it has not been confirmed whether or not “Devastation” will appear on the band’s forthcoming album. However, the track still offers a taste of what fans can expect from their new music.

On Twitter, Beartooth revealed they decided to release “Devastation” now as a way to hold fans over as they wait for their highly-anticipated new LP.
“Here’s a little something to hold you over,” the tweet says. “New jam available now across all streaming platforms.”

“Devastation” has all of the makings for a classic Beartooth song. Along with Shomo’s powerful vocals, the single features heavy breakdowns, massive choruses and, of course, explosive verses that are truly headbanging worthy. “Devastation” marks the band’s first new release of 2021. As well, it’s the first piece of new music to be shared since the deluxe edition release of Disease in 2019 which features the songs “Threat To Society” and “Young.”

For now, their next album doesn’t have a confirmed release date. However, last year, Shomo revealed that the band’s new album is unlike anything they’ve done before.
“Everything is amped up to 11,” he told Mosh Talks with Beez in June. “I am so so pumped. Obviously, this is what you wanna think when you’re making a record, but damn this is the best one yet. Not even close. This is the heaviest record. This is my best work [and] the most proud I’ve been of these songs. It’s wild. It’s some heavy-duty shit.”

Over the past year, Shomo has unveiled plenty of teasers regarding Beartooth’s upcoming music. Shortly after parting ways with guitarist Kamron Bradbury, Shomo took to Instagram to share a brief clip of an unreleased Beartooth song he recorded at Capital House Studio with producer Nick Ingram. The snippet, which was posted in June, features Shomo’s vocals alongside heavy rock guitars and thundering drums.

Then, in July, Shomo shared two more videos in the studio. The first one is of him recording vocals for a new song. The frontman even included some lyrics from the upcoming track in the Instagram caption.
“Struck up a deal with the reaper, had all my prior transgressions absolved,” the caption says. “I’ve been dosed with the ether nobody cares when you’re all alone. Still looking for the bright side, I’m in love with the dark side. Still dead on the inside, I look dead on the outside.”

The other video is of him channeling Issues bassist Skyler Acord while tracking some bass parts for Beartooth’s next album.

Along with sharing video teasers on social media, Shomo has also revealed a lot of information about Beartooth’s forthcoming LP this past year. Last summer, he compared their last record Disease to this next album, saying that “if Disease was AC/DC [then] this record is Black Sabbath.” Although this new batch of songs may offer different sounds, Shomo further told Mosh Talks that their next album will include elements that cater to all of their listeners.
“It’s a lot more influenced in dark stoner rock, heavy power groove,” Caleb told Mosh Talks in June. “Obviously, there’s still a lot of fast [stuff] and some punk rock and all that, but I’ve really been exploring with the stoner-metal side of guitars and guitar tones and doing different tunings and lots of fuzz and chaos and layering the fuck out of my guitar tracks.”

Then, in November, Shomo offered yet another taste of Beartooth’s new music. He posted a brief video of him listening to the final master recordings of the new album. As well, the post’s caption seemingly includes lyrics from an unreleased song.
“Do you feel it?,” the caption says. “It’s rock bottom and you finally have a reason. It’s do or die I’ll see you when you’re breathing. (See you in 2021).”

Two weeks after sharing this video teaser, Shomo revealed on Twitter that Beartooth’s fourth studio album is officially finished.
“LP4 is finally 100% finished,” he said on Twitter.

Along with writing and recording Beartooth’s next record, Shomo has been busy with plenty of other projects. In April, he teamed up with the Used for “The Lottery,” off of their new album Heartwork. The Used frontman Bert McCracken told Kerrang! that Shomo “jumped at the opportunity and devoured the concept like a wild animal.”
“He even recorded his parts in his green room in NYC right before he went onstage,” McCracken told Kerrang!. “The result is one of the heaviest songs in the Used catalog. And if you haven’t yet read the short story The Lottery by Shirley Jackson you’re in for a real treat!”

In May, Shomo also joined forces with Motionless In White for a remix of their popular song “Another Life,” off of their 2019 album Disguise. The “Another Life – Caleb Shomo Remix” is available to stream below.
More recently, in October, I Prevail released their live performance of “Deadweight” with Shomo. The performance happened on the 2019 Degenerates Tour with A Day To Remember, Can’t Swim, Beartooth and I Prevail. The track’s audio was recorded during the tour’s stop in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Nov. 23. The collab appears on I Prevail’s latest live album POST TRAUMATIC and is available to stream below.
