Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz doesn't hold back on Trump’s victory: “I can’t wrap my head around it”

Though the Beastie Boys have not been working on music following the death of founding member Adam “MCA” Yauch, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz has found a musical outlet in scoring films. And he’s been speaking out against the newly elected Donald Trump.

In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Horovitz further details his rejection of Donald Trump’s vision for America.

“I get that there’s a large portion of this country that is looking for some fuckin’ racist, sexist, homophobe like fuckin’ awful white dude that they want to be in charge. Okay, I get that there’s a portion of our country that wants that,” Horovitz tells The Daily Beast.

“But Trump I don’t get. I can’t wrap my head around it. He is the New York City rich elite. Who got duped by that motherfucker? I don’t get it at all. People look at him—and us New Yorkers—as awful people, so I don’t get it? He’s a fuckin’ scumbag.”

Red more: Beastie Boys will “never” play again without MCA

In November, Horovitz and fellow Beastie Boy Mike D held a rally at Adam Yauch Park, a memorial to former Beastie Boy MCA, after it was defaced with swastikas and a message that read: “Go Trump!”

“Take what you're good at and what you truly enjoy, and lend your services to the causes you care most about because we we won't stop. And please, keep your eyes open, stand up for each other,” Horovitz said at the rally. “This is homegrown terrorism for real. I reject Donald Trump’s vision of America. New York City, I’m asking you to do the same.”

He tells The Daily Beast that he’s been shocked by the rise of the “alt-right,” but he sees it directly coinciding with Trump’s previous messages. Plus, he points out that Trump has yet to denounce the actions similar to these that has taken place across the country.

“Alt-right-delete. It’s ridiculous,” he tells the news source. “I don’t think they did [the playground graffiti], I just think it was some kid who thought it was a funny thing to do. But I’ve never seen a swastika on the fuckin’ F train and, on the West 4th Street train station, I’ve seen one four times—just in the last six months. And Trump can’t take fifteen seconds to say, ‘I denounce that shit?’ It’s pathetic.”

The Daily Beast also reports that in addition to his work scoring films like No No and a documentary about Casio keyboards, Horovitz has also starred in 2014's While We’re Young and 2017's Golden Exits.
