Behemoth frontman responds to Irish politician's attempt to ban show

Polish black metal act Behemoth are no strangers to controversy, but now an Irish conservative politician is aiming for them.

The band’s upcoming show in Limerick, Ireland with Amon Amarth has been called out by councillor Kevin Sheehan who wants the Minister for Justice to bar the group from playing.

Sheehan says he is concerned with their satanic beliefs and past onstage actions such as tearing bibles in half.

“People who come to our country and intend – and I hope they don’t do it – to tear up bibles on public platforms for the entertainment of people. To me it’s disgusting and it’s disgraceful and it’s not my type of entertainment. We do not want it here in this country.”

The councillor continued, saying “To me, the objection is well founded and it’s quite justified. Satanism is associated with evil. And I’m a Christian. I wouldn’t be blowing my trumpet too loud about that. I’m an average Christian, if there’s such a thing. And what I am against totally is anything to do with Satanism and with evil thoughts, music or practices.”

Now Behemoth frontman Nergal has responded to the issue in an Instagram post.

“Nihil novi. Another attention whore which Poland’s politics is full of. But do we really need that kind of publicity? Nope. But I’m thankful regardless!” the caption reads.
