Bernie Sanders gets own Ben & Jerry’s flavor that sends political message

Bernie Sanders has found a sweet new way to campaign — the Democratic presidential candidate is getting his very own Ben & Jerry’s flavor.

The new flavor is called “Bernie’s Back” and is a product of the Sanders campaign.

The flavor was created by Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield themselves, who have been longtime supports of the senator from Vermont. They created the flavor in honor of the president.

Even though Ben and Jerry created the flavor, it is not affiliated with the company. Ben & Jerry’s was sold to conglomerate Unilever in 2000 and has distanced itself from the activism of the founders.

Cohen tweeted a video about the flavor and said its the “first in a full line of Bernie flavors”.

According to Sanders’ campaign site, the hot cinnamon flavor contains one large chocolate disc on top and a very stiff butter toffee core.

The chocolate disc “represents all the wealth that has risen to the top 1%. The backbone represents Bernie’s steadfast determination to un-rig our economy.” The cinnamon flavor is “our political revolution holding politicians’ feet to the fire to make America work for working people of all races and genders”.

The campaign site is giving away free pints in sweepstakes that you can learn more about here. They will be giving 40 away. Unfortunately, it looks like the pint won’t be available in stores due to the limited amount.

Back in 2016, Cohen created 40 pints of “Bernie’s Yearning” ice cream in honor of the candidate.
