The internet is divided over Biffy Clyro’s rock take on “WAP”

Biffy Clyro recently joined BBC for a Live Lounge performance. For the set, they decided to take on the worldwide hit “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion.

For the cover, Biffy Clyro renamed the viral single to “WAB” which stands for “wet as Biffy” and gave it a rock-inspired spin. The internet, however, is now divided over the band’s recent performance.

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” has been transformed in various covers, parodies, mashups and TikTok videos since its release. Most recently, one TikToker did an unexpected mashup of the song with Hannah Montana‘s “Best Of Both Worlds” that oddly works.

Biffy Clyro decided to take on the megahit for their recent BBC Live Lounge appearance. The band performed the cover along with “Tiny Indoor Fireworks” in support of their new album A Celebration Of Endings.

The “WAP” cover, however, isn’t going down exactly as the band might have hoped. For the performance, they renamed the song to “WAB” which stands for “wet as Biffy” and gave a rock-inspired rendition that transforms the track.

Despite some not enjoying its sound, many listeners were both surprised and entertained by Biffy Clyro’s cover this week.

Others, however, think Biffy Clyro shouldn’t have covered “WAP” to begin with. As a female-empowerment anthem performed by two Black women, some argue that the all-male band should’ve picked a different song to perform on Live Lounge. As well, other listeners argue that the “WAP” cover is just, well, bad.

Biffy Clyro’s cover comes a few weeks after Russell Brand was criticized for his comments about “WAP.” The comedian shared a lengthy video debating on if the Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion collab is truly a feminist anthem or simply “porn.”
