Elton John‘s “iHeart Living Room Concert” went down on Sunday, March 29. The livestreamed concert for coronavirus relief featured Billie Eilish, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, Dave Grohl and more.
The iHeart Living Room Concert was set up to provide donations for those battling coronavirus relief. The two specific charities selected were Feeding America and First Responders Children’s Foundation.
“Every dollar raised from the COVID-19 response fund for Feeding America will be used to get food and funds to local food banks across the US and FOX Entertainment is matching the first $100,000 donated from supporters,” a statement says. “Money raised for First Responders Children’s Foundation will help support those first responder families who are enduring financial hardship due to the coronavirus outbreak.”
Billie Joe Armstrong kept with the dark theme of coronavirus and played one of Green Day’s classic hit from American Idiot, “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.
“I hope everybody’s happy and healthy – or trying to be as happy as possible,” Armstrong said, “I know it’s a really stressful time. But I just wanna say it’s an honor to be playing for everybody right now.”
Eilish and FINNEAS decided to play their biggest hit in “bad guy.”
Looking as comfortable as ever, Eilish let her vocals come to the forefront on the usually dance-heavy track. “We wanted to thank iHeart and FOX for letting us be some sort of comfort in this crazy, crazy time. Love to you, your families, your loved ones, everybody. Let’s stay strong together. Love you. Take care.”
Dave Grohl busted out the 1997 Foo Fighters mega-hit “My Hero.” Grohl dedicates the song to the coronavirus first responders.
“I hope you’re staying healthy. If you love someone let them know, if you’re thankful for someone, tell them,” Grohl says. ” I’d like to dedicate this song to all the people out there on the front lines, that are doing their best to get us through all of this.”
The concert comes at a tough time for musicians, athletes and everyone else. The massive coronavirus spread has canceled sporting seasons, countless tours and festivals and pretty much everything else.
Celebrities like Elton John, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Machine Gun Kelly, Jeffree Star and more have all donated to coronavirus relief efforts. In addition to iHeart Radio, companies like Bandcamp and Spotify have also attempted to help artists in this crucial time.
