Billie Eilish second guessed releasing debut album the night before

Billie Eilish has had an explosive start to her career, but she almost decided not to release her debut album.

According to Billboard, the pop star was second-guessing the release of her album the day before it was released.

“I’ve never felt that way,” says Eilish. “Where it’s my child and I don’t want anybody’s hands on it.”

Eilish apparently asked her team if it was possible to stop the release at a Jimmy Kimmel taping.

“[It’s rare] to actually really fuck with what you make and create,” says Eilish. “I didn’t want the world to be able to tell me how they feel about this thing I love.”

The singer’s success was discussed at length during the interview and is attributed to her management’s calculated streaming plan. Aiming to drop a wide range of singles leading to the album release landed Eilish on multiple genre-based playlists.

“There was a moment where artists and songs were living and dying by what playlist they could be on,” says her manager Danny Rukasin. “We made sure to be the standout on different ones.”

Eilish also revealed in the interview a number of famous musicians who reached out to praise her, including Avril Lavigne. Lavigne congratulated Eilish, suggesting the two hang out in Los Angeles sometime and reminding her that she also got her start at a young age.

The singer also received praise from Paramore vocalist Hayley Williams, reasonably losing her mind over the whole thing.

Eilish is headed on a huge North American tour. Tickets are on sale here. Check out the full list of dates below, which was recently updated.
