Let’s be honest, we’ve all been obsessed with Billie Eilish‘s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? The album is full of bass-heavy bangers and even shows Eilish’s fandom of The Office by sampling snippets from the show in her song “my strange addiction.”

The track features dialogue from the “Threat Level Midnight” episode, meaning Eilish had to receive proper approval before being able to use the snippets in her track.

As you can probably imagine, The Office creators were a bit confused—and excited—when receiving the request.

The Office‘s “Threat Level Midnight” episode aired in 2011 and centered around the characters watching a fake movie they made themselves. The fake film features Agent Michael Scarn and contains ’70s-style disco music and of course, the Scarn dance.

“When we made the beat for ‘my strange addiction,’ it reminded me of the song they play when they do the Scarn dance,” Eilish told MTV News“I thought that was really funny, so we literally just ripped the audio from Netflix and put it in the song, not at all thinking that they would say yes to it and we’d be able to put it out. Also, it’s about strange addictions, and ‘The Office’ is mine, so…”

But before Eilish could release the track to the world, she had to go through the necessary steps for approval from The Office cast and creators.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, writer and actor B.J. Novack admits he already had Eilish’s “bury a friend” on his playlist, but was unfamiliar with the rest of her work.

“They had to get approval of all the cast that was on it,” Novack explains. “I was fine with it regardless, but I was like ‘Wow, bonus: This is a banger.’”

Daniel Chun, co-executive producer of season 7, admits that he was not only surprised with the request but pretty damn confused as well.

“Until you told me about her, I didn’t know who she was,” he admits. “It’s not a knock on Billie Eilish, it’s more a commentary on how old I am. It was a real double whammy, learning someone’s existence and then learning that they used [the episode]. I looked at the song and I loved it. It’s great.”

The Office‘s song producer, Eve Nelson, was beyond excited with the news.

“Can’t say enough about that girl,” she gushes. “She is, to me, one of the finest young artists of today. She takes risks. She’s herself. She marches to her own drummer. I love what she did with that. I thought it was brilliant. I could hear that she got slightly inspired by the beat. I respect and admire her so much. I’m honored that I have anything to do with inspiring Billie Eilish.”
