‘Black Panther’ Best Original Song nominee won't be performed at Oscars

Bad news Black Panther fans, the Best Original Song nominee for the film won’t be performed at Sunday’s Oscars ceremony.

The song, performed by Kendrick Lamar, SZA, Sounwave and Anthony Triffith, is up for the award, but won’t be performed due to a scheduling conflict.

Lamar has reportedly been abroad and did not have enough time after the nominations came out to put together a performance. Understandably, the other artists did not want to try to put together a performance without the rapper.

Black Panther nomination is the first time a superhero movie has been up for the Best Picture award.

The lack of performance has nothing to do with the award show worrying about time restraints. There was conflict earlier this month about the running time when the producers attempted to give out a few awards during commercial break, but revoked that decision after major backlash.

Even though we won’t hear the Black Panther song on Sunday, Queen will be performing with Adam Lambert as frontman to celebrate Bohemian Rhapsody’s nominations.

The other songs nominated for Best Original Song include “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, “I’ll Fight” from RBG, “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns and “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” by The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

In other Oscar drama new, the award ceremony decided to forgo a host for the first time in 30 years. The decision came after Kevin Hart stepped down as host after a series of homophobic tweets of his resurfaced.

In fact, Warped Tour creator Kevin Lyman suggested Alicia Keys as a possible host after her performance at the Grammys. He also suggested she host the anniversary shows of Warped, which would definitely be an unlikely mashup.

The Favourite and Netflix’s Roma tied for the most nominations with 10 each. Plus, some of our favorites—A Star Is Born, A Quiet Place, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, Incredibles 2—are up for a handful of awards. You can see the full list of Oscar nominees here.

The 91st Academy Awards will air on ABC Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
