Shuri from 'Black Panther' is getting her own comic book

The comic series will center around T’Challa’s sister Shuri months after the Black Panther movie, fitting in with the continuity of Ta-Nehisi’s Black Panther comic book series.

The series, which is set to be called Shuri, will kick off with T’Challa being moved into space to explore the Intergalatic Empire of Wakanda, thus leaving Wakanda without an actual leader. Shuri, who is next in line for the throne, will be forced to leave the comforts of her lab and step up as monarch whether she likes it or not.

Shuri will be written by award-winning author Nnedi Okorafor, who penned the digital comic series Black Panther: Long Live the King for Marvel.

“[Shuri is] an African young woman of genius level intelligence who is obsessed with technology and has traveled spiritually so far into the past that she’s seen Wakanda before it was Wakanda,” Okorafor tells Bustle. “The Ancestors call her Ancient Future. And she’s super ambitious. What do I love about her? Alllll that and more.”

According the Bustle, Marvel’s official synopsis reads:

“Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one — and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own.”

And the best part? The series will be available in October of this year!
