'Black Widow' will see Robert Downey Jr. return as Iron Man, reports say

Many rumors have been circulating around Marvel‘s first Phase 4 film Black Widow ever since it started production. When would the film take place? Would any other Marvel superheroes be making an appearance?

Now, according to a report from Deadline, it looks like one familiar face will be making a cameo in the forthcoming film, and fans couldn’t be more thrilled.

While reporting on the Saturn Awards Friday night, Deadline revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be making one final return to the Marvel Universe.

If the report holds true, Downey will be reprising his role as Tony Stark and the infamous Iron Man in a cameo for the highly anticipated Black Widow film.

Rumors suggest the film will take place after the events of Captain America: Civil War but before Avengers: Infinity War.

While no other insight has been offered as to what Downey’s role could entail, many are already speculating that it could be a very minor cameo.

Before the unveiling of some Black Widow footage during SDCC, a deleted scene from Civil War was shown.

During the clip, we see Tony warning Natasha by telling her, “They’re coming for you” followed by footage of Natasha on the run. If this is any indication, Downey’s cameo could be nothing more than recycled film footage.

Still, it does leave us to wonder if we’ll see even more of Downey in the film or if this solidifies the time during which the film will take place.

Of course, it is Marvel, who has been known to insert fake footage into trailers just to throw fans off and keep them guessing.

While it’s hard to trust any Marvel speculations and rumors at this point, we still can’t help but hope to see the return of Iron Man one last time.

Black Widow is set to release May 1, 2020, marking the first film of Phase 4. Scarlet Johansson will reprise her role as Natasha while Stranger Things‘ David Harbour is slated to take on the role of the Red Guardian.

Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh will join as other Black Widow agents with the rumored villain to be the Taskmaster.
