This social distancing-inspired blink-182 parody works better than it should

Since many of us began quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic, the internet has flooded with new content to watch. With various artists livestreaming and new social distancing-inspired content being released every day on various platforms, content sharing seems to be at an all-time high. Now, a blink-182-inspired parody video has emerged on YouTube that is very fitting for our current times.

A creative parody of blink-182‘s “Don’t Leave Me,” this social distancing themed video from YouTube user Bilbo Swaggins III is a relatable take on what many of us are facing in quarantine right now.

blink-182 themselves have been active online during the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this month, they released a social distancing-inspired video for their song “Happy Days,” taken from their latest album NINE. The video featured both the band, their fans and familiar faces such as Machine Gun Kelly, the Used‘s Bert McCracken and Steve-O practicing good social distancing and hygiene routines.

Mark Hoppus has also been keeping busy online. He recently took to Twitch to perform a bunch of songs and has been hosting his own Animal Crossing: New Horizons livestreams.

Now, it appears that blink-182 fans are also keeping themselves entertained online these days. YouTube user Bilbo Swaggins III shared their parody of “Don’t Leave Me” earlier this month on the video platform. Called “Don’t Leave Home,” they took the lyrics from the song off of 1999’s Enema Of The State and made it relatable for everyone in quarantine.

The parody features altered lyrics that address flattening the curve of infections, maintaining good hygiene, staying positive and more. The entertaining video also has some great Travis Barker-inspired drumming, Hoppus bass hops and even some mocking of those that decided to go on Spring Break vacation this year.

As to why Bilblo Swaggins III decided to share this blink-182 parody, they took to the comments section of the video to share some positive words.

“Enema of the State is a sick album. Here’s a parody of a song from it! Stay safe and happy while social distancing, folks. We’ll make it through ‘rona together :)”

Aside from YouTube, people are finding other ways to stay entertained on different platforms. Earlier this week, Animal Crossing players shared their recreations of Warped Tour in the game on Reddit and Twitter. Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz even took to TikTok to celebrate the anniversary of THAT viral photo of him and Bruno Mars.

A number of artists are also performing livestreams this week including YUNGBLUD, Metallica, Dashboard Confessional and more. All of the information about where and when you can catch the next livestreams from your favorite artists can be found here.
