Next blink-182 album could be "completely weird," says Mark Hoppus
An upcoming blink-182 album may go in some “completely weird directions,” according to the band’s bassist and co-vocalist, Mark Hoppus. The musician speaks to Kerrang about the band’s sonic plans for their follow-up to 2016’s California.
In fact, for the anticipated eighth studio set from the classic act who possibly used witchcraft to prevent the Fyre Festival, the trio want to use the past to christen their future. Hoppus says he hopes to guide blink into artistic territory akin to the band’s untitled 2003 full-length, an album where musical experimentation first consumed the outfit.

“After playing in this band for 27 years, I want to push it and do different things and take blink to places where we haven’t been before,” Hoppus explains. “We’re really trying to do that on the new record. We want to do with our band what we did in 2003 with Untitled, where we take our foundations and go off in completely weird directions.”
And perhaps those extended creative pathways for blink-182 are afforded thanks to their involvement in outside projects, namely the freshly announced Simple Creatures, a team-up between Hoppus and All Time Low‘s Alex Gaskarth.
All the same, the blink bassist affirms that he and his bandmates’ main focus remains fueling the famed “I Miss You” rockers who recently got hilariously summed up in a John Mulaney quote. So be on the lookout for new stuff very soon!
“We’re in the studio all the time. … That’s the thing, our main bands are our main focus and will always be. We all have our outside interests and our outside things, but we’re pretty straightforward with one another; blink really is everybody’s priority and that’s understood among all of us.”
