BMX legend, former MTV host Dave Mirra dead in apparent suicide

BMX legend and former reality TV show host Dave Mirra was found dead of an apparent suicide Thursday. The 41-year-old was found dead in his truck in Asheville, North Carolina, from what law officials reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to TMZ Sports. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Mirra was involved with Warped Tour in 2004 when he made a few surprise appearances. The extreme athlete medaled in the X Games every year from its inception in 1995 to 2008, holding a total of 23 medals. He will also be remembered as the host of The Challenge on MTV from 2004 to 2005 and as the subject of the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX video game series. The first Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX soundtrack included Deftones, Pennywise, Rancid, Social Distortion, Dropkick Murphys and Swingin Utters.
