Bob Dylan film set to star 'Call Me By Your Name' actor Timothée Chalamet

Bob Dylan is set to get a new movie about his life. Timothée Chalamet (Little Women, Call Me By Your Name) is currently lined up to portray the iconic folk star. James Mangold will direct the film. Mangold recently received critical acclaim for Ford v. Ferrari, Walk the Line and Logan.

The film title is yet to be confirmed but is being referred to as Going Electric. It will be created by Fox Searchlight. The story follows Dylan’s rise to fame, his turning away from folk and focusing on rock to become a musical legend.

The working title of the film Going Electric refers to when Dylan embraced rock and roll and traded in bis acoustic guitar for an amp and electric guitar. This made rock music a mainstay and created a large outcry.

According to Deadline who first reported the news, we are unsure if Chalamet will sing any Bob Dylan songs. However, it is reported that Chalamet is taking guitar lessons to familiarize himself with Dylan’s instrument of choice.

This is Mangold’s second film about a legendary musician. Previously, the director made Walk the Line about Johnny Cash and June Carter. The film was widely recognized by critics and fans alike.

Bob Dylans is actively working with Mangold and Fox Searchlight on the film. Dylan’s longtime manager Jeff Rosen will produce the film.

Fox Searchlight acquired the film when HBO let the project go after their regime change. Chalamet was quietly committed to play the role when HBO had the rights.

The movie includes rights to the book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald as well as all the rights to Dylan’s music.

Chalamet is currently receiving acclaim for his portrayal of Laurie in Little Women. He will star is Denis Villeneuve’s (Blade Runner 2049, Arrival) star-studded rendition of Dune at the end of this year. In addition to Chalamet, Dune also stars Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin.

There is no release date set for Going Electric but it is rumored that Chalamet will begin his work in late-May.
