Brand New predicted to land first No. 1 album with 'Science Fiction'
Brand New’s Science Fiction came as a surprise to us all, and it looks like it might be shaking up the industry, too. Billboard has reported that it’s bound for a No. 1 album ranking on the Billboard 200 chart.
Not only would it be the band’s first No. 1 album—but it would be the first independently distributed album to hit No. 1 this year, too.

Billboard has reported that Science Fiction has earned around 55,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Aug. 24.
The band’s previous album, Daisy, debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard charts. If it does rank No. 1, it will also be the third rock album to lead the Billboard rock chart in 2017—joining Arcade Fire’s Everything Now and Linkin Park’s One More Light.
Brand New’s new album is their first in eight years, and in no time, fans were sharing photos of the album art, theories about the future of Brand New, and are now explaining some of the lyrics and possible callbacks in the album.
Its ranking is set to be confirmed via Billboard Sunday, Aug. 27.
