Brendon Urie livestreams creation of synthwave track "1980VRO"

Brendon Urie is a man of the people. The Panic! At The Disco singer is always open about his creative process between behind-the-scenes videos and a Twitch stream. Well, he’s been creating some new songs and giving tutorials about a certain music creation software to his fans.

Urie used his Twitch stream to play some Fortnite, but also create a 1980’s synthwave track called “1980VRO.”

We’ll start from the top, Brendon Urie has a Twitch channel where he plays video games, chats with fans and generally does some interesting stuff. On Wednesday, Feb. 26, he began creating a new song and showing people how to do certain things.

The process took quite a while (over 10 hours) but he went into detail about adding reverb here, and piano there. He even dropped a few teasers along the way, such as totally muting the stream when he was recording the vocals in order to keep them a secret.

For those out of the loop, vros is a gender-nondenominational way of saying bros. It has a funny story behind it that involves Panic! At The Disco tour photographer Jake Chamseddine, twenty one pilotsJosh Dunn, Urie, a selfie and a typo but that’s neither here nor there. Since the typo, fans have been using the term instead of “bro.”

Well, the song that Urie created is actually a huge banger, considering he did it mostly live and within such a short time frame.

A link to both live streams that show the whole process follow. Part one is here and part two is here.

But, if you just wanted to hear this synth-pop heater in all of its glory, someone made a YouTube video of the song. Listen to it below.

More Brendon Urie

With Frozen 2 hitting streaming services, Disney is offering up a new behind-the-scenes look at how Brendon Urie put Panic! At The Disco‘s song for the film together.

In the new clip, Urie goes into his favorite parts of the Oscar-nominated anthem, “Into the Unknown,” as well as his connection to it and how he reacted upon the offer.

The soundtrack, which was announced last September, also featured songs from Weezer and Kacey Musgraves among others.

The song is sung by the character Elsa in the film but of course, Panic! At The Disco recorded their own version as well as a music video for the end credits. In case you haven’t heard “Into The Unknown” yet, check it out below.

In the new behind-the-scenes clip, Urie says “I love everything about this song.”

“My favorite thing about it, though, is just that soaring chorus. I can’t get enough of it. Every time it breaks into the chorus, I get chills. I’m getting chills just talking about it.”

When Disney ended up offering the opportunity to record a song for the soundtrack Urie also says he was quick to jump on the chance.

“I thought, ‘If I have any chance at all to sing this, yes, I’m going to take that opportunity, right now.’”

Speaking on the personal connection the musician has to the track, Urie offers an anecdote about relating to Elsa hearing a voice in her head telling her to pursue something she’s unsure of.

“It’s this point in the story where Elsa’s hearing this voice in her head and she isn’t sure where it’s coming from. She has to come to terms with if she wants to pursue this thing or just ignore it completely and live her life. I’ve definitely been in that place before — do I go pursue this amazing curiosity that terrifies me to no end or do I just sit comfortably and rest on my laurels?”
