Brian Logan Dales to appear in ‘90s horror movie musical

Brian Logan Dales (formerly of the Summer Set and currently of DALES) is set to return to the stage in a different way as the singer has just been announced as part of the cast for a musical based on an iconic ‘90s slasher film.

I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Unauthorized Musical revealed its cast exclusively with Entertainment Weekly. Dales will appear as Barry Cox (who was portrayed by Ryan Phillippe in the film version).

Dales began teasing the announcement earlier this week by sharing a line from another character, Helen, about his.

The rest of the core group is rounded out by Bianca Gisselle as Julie James, Ryan Sutton Stevens as Ray Bronson and Greer Grammer (known for MTV’s Awkward) as Helen Shivers. The roles were filled by Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar respectively in the original movie.

Other cast members for the musical adaptation include Mathew Scott Montgomery (So Random!) as Max Gillespie and Alli Miller as Elsa Shivers and Sunny Egan. Connor Weil (MTV’s Scream) and Natalie Masini will serve as covers.

The film’s premise has the aforementioned core group bound by a tragic accident and are stalked by a maniac with a hook. The actor portraying said maniac has not been revealed yet.

The musical was adapted by Jordan Ross who has previous co-writing credits on Cruel Intentions: The Musical and The Unauthorized O.C. Musical. The new adaptation is described as a love letter to the original film as it takes viewers back to Southport, North Carolina in the summer of ‘97.

Dales took to Instagram earlier today to share the announcement.

“Los Angeles, it’s been a while,” he says. “I’m back from the dead and returning home to play Barry Cox in I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Unauthorized Musical this fall. This has been on my bucket list for a long time, and I’m so excited to join [the cast] in the fictional city of Southport to sing your favorite songs from the 90s, all thanks to [writer Jordan Ross].”

The musical will be set to a playlist of ‘90s B-sides including Third Eye Blind and Eagle-Eye Cherry, and it opens Oct. 11 for a seven-week run at El Cid in Los Angeles.
