BMTH, Backstreet Boys hang out backstage at the Grammys

Sure, Bring Me The Horizon may not have gotten a Grammy last night. However, by the looks of it, they had fun anyway. In a photo shared to Instagram, the band can be seen hanging out with everybody’s favorite early 2000s boy band, the Backstreet Boys.

Additionally, frontman Oli Sykes apparently changed out his fancy red carpet suit and can be seen sporting a Cannibal Corpse shirt instead.

To accompany the legendary photo, the cheeky caption reads, “We weren’t the heaviest band at the party.”

However, many fans aren’t too keen on Bring Me The Horizon’s latest post. Some are accusing the band of not being heavy at all and taking the photo’s caption a bit too literally.

On the flip side, as pointed out by Loudwire, the band’s latest post could potentially be taken as a statement. After following a more pop-oriented direction with amo, the band hanging out with such a large name in pop music may signify their transcension into other genres.

If you recall, back in November, Sykes actually gave pop music some credit. When asked about the current state of rock music, Sykes claimed that the genre wasn’t doing well.

“In my opinion, it’s mostly shite,” Sykes says of rock music. “I don’t love the music on Hot Hits UK but they are well-written songs and that’s something a lot of rock bands don’t appreciate. The craft of writing good songs is hard.”

Additionally, the frontman further criticized rock music in another interview, while stating the urgency for musicians to create music across different genres.

“Rock’s gone soft, it’s gone miserable and boring, there’s not really much exciting about it. So it’s important that we cross over, because we feel like we belong more in a place where people just like music and it’s not about how heavy it is.”

Bring Me The Horizon were nominated for Best Rock Song last evening for “MANTRA”. However, they were beaten by St. Vincent’s “Masseducton.” Check out the full list of nominees and winners of the 2019 Grammys here.
