Bring Me The Horizon’s “Sleepwalking” receives silver certification

Bring Me The Horizon find themselves at the top of another chart now that “Sleepwalking” has gone silver, according to BPI.

The chart-topping song comes from the band’s 2013 genre-bending album, Sempiternal.

“Sleepwalking” is a timeless metalcore track that deserves all the chart-topping attention it gets. Bring Me The Horizon experiment in styles ranging from deathcore to electronica, and the latest certification proves a payoff to their ambitious style.

“Sleepwalking” isn’t the first experience the genre-bending group have had with commercial success, though. The silver certification means “Sleepwalking” has sold over 200,000 units. Meanwhile, Sempiternal, the album from which it came, has a gold certification, meaning it sold over 100,000 units. The record also won a Skully at the 2014 Alternative Press Music Awards for best album, a year after a reader’s poll voted him one of the top vocalists of the year.

Bring Me The Horizon have been climbing charts since Suicide Season, the last album the band released as a deathcore band via Visible Noise. While Suicide Season reached the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s U.S. Heatseakers albums chart, their international success came after 2010’s There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret.

Their record amo landed the group their first No. 1 spot on UK Albums Chart, an honor they earned again with 2020’s POST HUMAN: SURVIVAL HORROR. Channeling their heavier roots while collaborating with artists such as BABYMETAL, the artists say the new record makes up for the lack of features in their discography.

“We haven’t really enlisted anyone for the last six or seven years you know to help us,” lead singer Oliver Sykes told Alternative Press. “We really wanted to try and collaborate with people on these next records and find people that can bring something to the table and do something that maybe we can’t.”

While Bring Me The Horizon’s future singles are sure to follow the same chart-topping trajectory as “Sleepwalking,” Sykes says it may be a while before another full album is released. Rather than releasing a new album following the release of the SURVIVAL HORROR, the band have stated their intention to follow the 2020 album with three conceptual EPs. According to Sykes, all future releases will sound drastically different from one another.

“We’ve literally started working on one song from the record, and whether that’s any good or will stay, I don’t know,” Sykes says. “Part one was very heavy and quite dark. For me, it all feels like a very low-frequency energy. It took a lot out of me, and I don’t think I could do it again—not straight away, anyway. The next record is going to be emotional in a different way. It just has to be. ‘Emotional’ is the word, with higher emotions. Not necessarily happier.”

If a recent TikTok teaser is any indication, the new material might be heavier, not happier. Whatever the band intend, it’s sure to have the same longevity as “Sleepwalking.” Find the lyrics to the chart-topping single and watch the video below.

Bring Me The Horizon “Sleepwalking” lyrics:

My secrets are burning a hole through my heart
And my bones catch a fever
When it cuts you up this deep
It’s hard to find a way to breathe
Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper, shadows start to sing
My skin’s smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe
Time stood still the way it did before
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
I’m at the edge of the world
Where do I go from here? Do I disappear?
Edge of the world
Should I sink or swim? Or simply disappear?
Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper, shadows start to sing
My skin’s smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe, sing it
Time stood still the way it did before
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
Wake up
Take my hand and give me a reason to start again
Wake up
Pull me out and give me a reason to start again
Time stands still (x4)
Your eyes are swallowing me
Mirrors start to whisper, shadows start to sing
My skin’s smothering me
Help me find a way to breathe
Time stood still the way it did before
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
Fell into another hole again
It’s like I’m sleepwalking (it’s like I’m sleepwalking)
Time stood still the way it did before
It’s like I’m sleepwalking
