Bring Me The Horizon discuss the decision of self-producing their album

Bring Me The Horizon made waves a few months ago when they announced that their forthcoming album Amo would be coming in January, and since the news, we’ve been keeping tabs on any update ever since.

In the excitement of the upcoming release, the band has done a few rounds of interviews, and the latest one explains why the group decided to self-produce the album rather than have someone else do it.

The band recently caught up with HardDrive Radio, and during the interview, they discussed what the process has been like creating and producing their past two albums: 2015’s That’s The Spirit and then 2019’s Amo.

When asked, the band’s frontman Oli Sykes explained that while the group has used producers in the past, it’s just something that hasn’t seemed to work for them, saying:

“We tried, and we’ve used producers and stuff like that and it’s just never worked for us. We’ve always been so sure of what we wanna do, going in the studio. We kind of produce the music every day. When we write a song, it rarely ever sounds like the same song. It goes through, like 20 or 30 iterations; it changes every day [and] every week. So, by the time we go into the studio, we’ve produced the hell out of it. I mean, we’re so sure that if someone came along…We like constructive criticism and it’s nice to get an outside perspective, for sure, but for the most part, it’s just like, we know what we want. Sometimes people can come in [and want to put their] artistry on it.”

The frontman then continued on to say:

“There’s nothing that glamorous about writing and recording an album. It’s just fucking hard work, man – it’s just relentless. And that’s all you do, you just do it every day, and sometimes it feels like people can get in the way of that. It’s not that we were like: ‘We’re gonna smash this.’ It’s just, like, ‘We think we can do this on our own and we wanna try it.’ And it kind of worked out for us…So, we did it again, I guess.”
