Burger King is giving away student loan payments to customers

Fast food brands are leading a weird form of socially aware online branding, and Burger King is doing it again.

Last year, Burger King released a video explaining net neutrality but now they’re offering student debt-cancelling sweepstakes.

The company released a video introducing “Whopper Loans” to help out all of the broke college students out there.

To participate, all you have to do is download the Burger King app, make a purchase and enter your monthly student loan amount. The grand prize is a whopping $100,000 with additional prizes being awarded.

Student debt in the U.S. is a massive issue with more than 40 million Americans collectively owing $1.5 trillion. Burger King’s promotion will surely help a few people, but at the end of the day, it’s still an ad campaign designed to boost their image.

Of course, a better option the company could choose would be raising the wages of their employees who are often struggling to make ends meet. Nevertheless, the company’s initiative will help at least a few people dig themselves out of debt.

The fast food giant has tackled other serious issues affecting young people before. A few years ago, they introduced an ad in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month. In case you don’t remember it or just feel like having a good cry, watch the video below.
