Carlie Hanson navigates heartbreak in new MASN collab "Gucci Knife"—watch
Alt-pop singer Carlie Hanson captures all the emotions surrounding heartbreak in her collab with MASN on “Gucci Knife.”
The song centers around coming to terms with someone abruptly leaving your life and the way it makes you feel. The upbeat pop elements of the song are paired with a haunting beat to mirror the mixed emotions of dealing with intense heartache.

“‘Gucci Knife’ captures the heavy heartbreak of being so unexpectedly let down by a person after they change their mind, what feels like, overnight,” Hanson says.
Directed by Nicholas Jandora (24kGoldn, Lil Skies), the visual’s somber color scheme mirrors the angsty vibe of the song. Set in and around a motel, Hanson is inside a room with knives, axes and various other tools surrounding her. Then, she sings from the balcony of the hotel in front of a thunderous sky. MASN also sings in front of the motel, sitting in front of a car Hanson sits on while rain pours down on them.

Throughout the video, that same car continues to make appearances, chronicling the journey of Hanson’s relationship. At first the couple are in the backseat, happy and enjoying life together. The next shot quickly switches to the two sitting as far apart as possible, cold and distant.
The contrasting emotions are further emphasized through the color scheme, with a warm tone filling the first shot and a cold tone on the second. The two continue fighting before one of them leaves the car, signifying the end of their relationship.
Hanson now sits in the backseat with a red color lighting up her face. This mirrors the emotions she has to deal with now that her heart is broken.

Hanson collabed with rising lo-fi pop/hip-hop rapper and singer MASN for “Gucci Knife.” He found viral success when his single “Psycho!” became a popular audio for users to make videos with on TikTok. In early 2020, MASN also joined forces with Trippie Redd to remix the track.
Ahead of sharing the song with fans, he took to Instagram earlier this week to express his excitement for “Gucci Knife.” He also wished Hanson happy birthday, calling her a “real rockstar.”

To celebrate “Gucci Knife,” Hanson posted a picture of a knife tattoo she got on the inside of her lip. In her caption, she tags MASN and tells him it is now his turn to get the tattoo.

The track marks Hanson’s first release in 2021 and will appear on her forthcoming debut full-length album. Along with a handful of singles, she has previously released two EPs, 2019’s JUNK and 2020 sophomore project DestroyDestroyDestroyDestory. The latter EP included the Iann Dior-featured track “Ego.” It also led to Hanson’s inclusion in Billboard’s 2020 21 Under 21 list next to artists such as Billie Eilish, Noah Cyrus and Chloe x Halle.
