The Netflix show is a psychological drama that takes from history and the methods of notorious serial killers both real and imagined.
The new trailer for the second season revealed that Manson will be involved to some extent in the upcoming season. It’s not clear how involved, but Manson was shown in custody in the video.
The season will take place in the ‘80s, which was when Manson was in prison.

Herriman has opened up in a recent interview about what it’s like to play the role of the killer twice.
“Mindhunter came first,” Herriman said on the Back to One podcast. “(Charles Manson) is in jail at that point. So yeah, it’s different. Because of that age gap. Manson, in the Tarantino movie, is pre-jail, and he’s kind of in his court jester… out there just living on the ranch and taking drugs and having sex.”
“He’s in that sort of whole cult life world. And then in jail, he’s an incredibly bitter, angry man. A certain lightness existed in him in the early stuff…he doesn’t feel like the same guy anymore when you see him in jail. He looks pretty pissed off most of the time.”
Then, he discussed getting inside of the mind of a killer for the Netflix show.
“The closest thing I can think of to him is a homeless person,” Herriman continued. “Maybe someone with schizophrenia that you see talking to themselves on the street. A lot of his interviews have that sense, where [he’s] just spouting stuff that doesn’t make sense. Other times it does make sense, like a lot of sense. So clearly the guy was mentally ill. I’ve read and watched a whole hell of a lot; I still don’t really know what made him tick.”
After he was cast as Manson in Mindhunter, he took on the role in the Tarantino film.
“(Tarantino) knew that I had done (the show), because obviously it would’ve been weird to keep that a secret,” Herriman said. “But he didn’t ask about any of it. He certainly didn’t say, ‘I want you to do something different.’ But there was enough already that I found that was different about him. And I looked different in that too.”
Herriman is only shown briefly in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, so it’ll be interesting to see how his character changes in the series.
Now, Lee’s daughter has come out to condemn her father’s appearance in the film and the way they utilized his character.
“I understand they want to make the Brad Pitt character this super bad-ass who could beat up Bruce Lee. But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive,” Shannon Lee told the Wrap. “He comes across as an arrogant asshole who was full of hot air. And not someone who had to fight triple as hard as any of those people did to accomplish what was naturally given to so many others.”
Lee saw the film over the weekend and was “really uncomfortable to sit in the theater and listen to people laugh at my father”. She was apparently not given a script in advance like Sharon Tate’s sister was.
“He’s the one with all the puffery and he’s the one challenging Brad Pitt. Which is not how he was,” she said. “What I’m interested in is raising the consciousness of who Bruce Lee was as a human being and how he lived his life. All of that was flushed down the toilet in this portrayal, and made my father into this arrogant punching bag.”
Despite her feelings about the character, she praised Mike Moh for the performance he gave in the film.
“He was directed to be a caricature,” she said she believes.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is Tarantino’s ninth film and uses the Manson Family murders as a backdrop.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood takes place in 1969 in Los Angeles and stars Pitt and DiCaprio in the lead roles. As previously reported, DiCaprio plays Rick Dalton, a “former star of a western TV series.” Pitt is Cliff Booth, who is Dalton’s “longtime stunt double.” The two characters are “struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor… Sharon Tate.”
Robbie stars as Sharon Tate, an actress who was killed along with several others who were apart of Manson’s cult. Actor Damon Herriman plays Manson in the film.
The films cast also includes Al Pacino, Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Lena Dunham, Dakota Fanning and many more.
Charles Manson, who died back in November, was the leader of the Manson Family, a murderous cult. The cult was connected with the murders of actress Tate, who was pregnant at the time. Also, they allegedly murdered several others in Los Angeles during July and August of 1969.
The film was released last Friday. It was initially set to appear in theaters on August 9, the 50th anniversary of the murder of Tate and her friends. However, it was moved to avoid possible controversy.
