Childish Gambino hinted at his retirement during Governors Ball — UPDATED

UPDATE: Thursday, June 8 at 1:20 p.m. EST

Donald Glover has confirmed to Huffington Post, during an event to promote his series Atlanta, that the next Childish Gambino album will in fact be his last, citing that the project just isn't punk enough anymore.

“Being punk just always felt really good to me and we always looked at ‘Atlanta’ as a punk show and I feel like the direction I would go with Childish Gambino wouldn’t be punk anymore. As much as ‘Redbone’ is a punk song because it’s a gospel song that’s on the radio, I’m like there’s only so far you can go before you just are the radio,” said Glover.

He also compared the project to a movie that's just had too many sequels.

“There’s nothing worst than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?’” said Glover. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”

Donald Glover has released three different albums under Childish Gambino, including his ultra successful “Awaken, My Love!” which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 when it was released back in December of 2016.
