It’s time to say hello to an old friend once again. The infamously maniacal doll Chucky is back for a brand new Child’s Play television series. On Thursday, creator Don Mancini debuted the chilling first-look teaser for the new show.

Chucky is set to air on the SyFy and USA channels in 2021.

We first heard that a Chucky television series was in the works back in 2018. Mancini originally revealed that he was developing an eight-part season with hour-long episodes. The series would be a direct continuation of the events in 2017’s Cult of Chucky. As well, Mancini said that the TV series would be “deliberately set up at the end of the last movie” with the tone of the series set to be “dark and disturbing.”

Now, after much anticipation, new details regarding Chucky are finally being revealed. For Mancini, he shares that he and Channel Zero mastermind Nick Antosca want to keep the integrity of the Chucky franchise intact for this new series.

“With this TV show, our mission has been to preserve the straightforward scariness of the original film or the first couple of films,” he says. “But at the same time, continue on with this ever-expanding tapestry of a consistent story that we’ve spun over the course of seven movies and 30-some years.”

Since the series’ announcement, Chucky fans have been asking Mancini to share which surviving characters may turn up on the television show. Although he hasn’t shared which characters will appear, Mancini does confirm that the series will have some new faces.

“I think fans are really gonna love to see the new characters that we introduce into this realm and just to see how they came off of our classic characters,” he continues. “Not just Chucky, but some of the others that you may be hoping to see. There’s a good chance they may turn up.”

Mancini also confirms that social media will play a big part in the new series.

“It’s so important to give Chucky new weapons, new strategies, and new targets, new goals,” he continues. “Chucky has a different goal in the TV show than he’s ever had before, and it’s specifically something that is designed to evoke something that’s going on in the zeitgeist today.”

On Thursday, Chucky fans finally got their first-look at the new series. Mancini debuted the first teaser for the show on social media. The 40-second long video shows the murderous doll ominously standing in a dimly-lit toy store.

Chucky is set to air on both USA and SyFy in 2021. No specific date for the series’ release has been shared at this time. However, SyFy has shared the official synopsis for the television show.

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.
